children often have very complex emotions that they are unable to understand let alone communicate to others. Childhood is though. And it can be difficult for parents to know how to help their children effectively.
Using positive affirmations is a powerful way to positively help children who struggle with anxiety or their emotions. Offer words of encouragement as well as teach them encouraging words that they can repeat for themselves!
When thinking of using positive affirmations the question is often asked.
What are positive affirmations?
I bet if you took a stab what they are you would have guessed right! They are what they sound. Positive affirmations are statements that confirm something to be true. Wikipedia explains them in the context of…
the practice of positive thinking and self-empowerment.
Positive affirmations for children are positive statements that are assumed to be true. Teaching your children that each affirmation is a basic truth about them will help them grab on to believing that what they are hearing and saying with help boost their self-confidence.
Now that you understand what affirmations are the next question that is often asked is.
Why are positive affirmations important for children?
This is a great question. I wondered the same thing once upon a time. Positive affirmations are crucial to help lay a self-empowering, confidence, self-love, and positive groundwork for their future.
We learn about our belief system about ourselves in the early childhood. Once children reach teenagers to than adults they often gravitate towards experience and situations they were taught when they were kids.
Instilling positive thought patterns in our children will help them with having good values, positive beliefs, confidence, empowerment, and self-love. Which will allow them to grow without limiting beliefs of self-worth.
The third question that is often asked is…
How use/practice positive affirmations?
Repetition is one of the most important ways to practices using affirmations. Reciting a few throughout the say is a great way to get started. If you forget one day that is okay! it takes practice. If you have a hard time remembering to do it throughout the day, try at a certain time. Such as bedtime, dinner, breakfast or before school.
Using an affirmation notebook is a great way to help your kids see their affirmations and thoughts visually. As well affirmation cards are a simple way for your children to practice positive affirmations on their own!
